Courtyard Washington, DC/U.S. Capitol Overview

First Impressions

The Courtyard Washington, DC/U.S. Capitol sits right in the heart of Northeast Washington, and honestly, the location caught me off guard in the best way possible. This three-star Marriott property doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, reliable choice that gets the fundamentals right. The moment you walk into the lobby, you get that clean, modern Courtyard vibe with plenty of natural light streaming through large windows.

Prime Capitol Hill Location

What really sets this place apart is where it sits on 2nd Street Northeast. You’re literally walking distance from Union Station (maybe 10 minutes on foot), which means easy Metro access to anywhere in the city. The Capitol building is close enough that you can stroll over for those classic DC photo ops, but you’re also in a neighborhood that feels more residential than touristy. I mean, there are actual locals grabbing coffee at the shops nearby, which gives you a better sense of real Washington life.

The Room Experience

The room setup here is what you’d expect from Courtyard — clean lines, that signature bedding, and a workspace that actually works if you need to get things done. What surprised me was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re in the middle of the city. The beds really are as comfortable as people say (guests consistently rave about the sleep quality), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping into everything. Each room has a mini-fridge and coffee maker, which honestly saves you money when DC hotel prices can get pretty steep.

Practical Perks

Here’s something that’ll matter if you’re driving — they have private parking right at the hotel. In this part of DC, that’s actually a big deal because street parking can be a nightmare, especially during the week when Hill staffers are everywhere. The fitness center is decent sized and the business center works fine if you need to print boarding passes or handle quick work stuff. There’s also a restaurant on-site called The Bistro, which serves Starbucks coffee and has grab-and-go options that are perfect for early morning museum visits.

Why Guests Love It

You know what really comes through in guest feedback? Couples especially seem to love staying here — they rate the location super highly for romantic getaways, probably because you can walk to some really nice dinner spots on H Street or catch a show at one of the nearby venues. The staff consistently gets good marks for being helpful without being overly formal, and the whole place just feels dependable. It’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities, but when you want a comfortable base for exploring Capitol Hill and the rest of DC without paying premium prices, this Courtyard delivers exactly what it promises.
