Here’s what I love about staying in Washington at this spot — you can walk to the Smithsonian museums in about ten minutes, maybe fifteen if you’re taking your time. What really surprised me though was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re in the heart of the political universe. The Southwest waterfront area has this interesting mix of government workers and tourists, so there’s always something happening but it never feels overwhelming.

The Room Experience

The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from a Holiday Inn — clean, functional, and surprisingly comfortable. Nothing fancy, but everything works well. The beds are actually pretty decent (I’m picky about mattresses), and the air conditioning was a lifesaver during my July visit. You know what I appreciated? The blackout curtains actually block out light, which is rare in city hotels. The bathroom was standard but spotless, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped.

The breakfast setup here is honestly impressive for a three-star place. They’ve got this buffet spread that covers pretty much everything — continental options, full English breakfast items, vegetarian choices, and they even handle gluten-free and kosher requests. I stuck mostly to the American classics, but I watched them make fresh eggs to order, which was a nice touch. The coffee was better than I expected, though that might be because I was comparing it to typical hotel coffee. There’s also a restaurant on-site, but with so many great DC dining options within walking distance, I only ate there once.

Look, this property delivers exactly what most travelers need — a solid base for exploring DC without breaking the bank. The parking situation is handled well (which is huge in this city), and the staff genuinely seems to know the area. I asked the front desk about metro routes and got detailed directions that actually made sense. Couples especially seem to love this place, and I can see why — you can walk hand-in-hand to the monuments at sunset, grab dinner in one of the nearby neighborhoods, and come back to a comfortable, quiet room. It’s that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything important but far enough from the tourist madness to actually relax.

  Location was excellent. I didn’t use the breakfast facilities. I particularly like the bathroom/shower as the bath had multiple grab rails & a non slip base. I am by no means infirm or old but people of all ages appreciate safe shower facilities. The bathroom was always cleaned to perfection.

  Perfect for visiting museums off the mall. Its a little off the beaten track if you're wanting to be in the heart of Washington as its surrounded by federal buildings. There's a great on site Starbucks and also a McDonalds on the corner of the block. Easy to hire bicycles are also nearby

  The location was perfect and really close to pretty much everything we wanted to see. We walked everywhere without any problems and really only needed to get a ride to/from the airport. The staff was beyond amazing. Everyone was very helpful and extremely friendly. The restaurant was very good and had a wide variety of foods.
