Hotel AKA Alexandria Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel AKA Alexandria, you immediately get that boutique hotel vibe — it’s polished without being stuffy, which honestly feels perfect for this historic part of Alexandria. The lobby has this contemporary elegance that somehow doesn’t clash with the Old Town charm just outside the doors. I mean, you’re literally steps away from cobblestone streets and 18th-century architecture, but inside feels refreshingly modern. This four-star property strikes that sweet spot between sophisticated and approachable.
The Location Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying here — you can walk to King Street’s restaurant scene in about five minutes, and the waterfront is practically around the corner. The hotel sits on First Street, which puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist chaos you’d get closer to the main drag. Couples seem to really get this location (they rate it 9.5, which makes total sense), probably because you can stroll to dinner and actually have a conversation without fighting crowds. Plus, there’s parking right at the hotel, which — trust me — is a huge deal in Old Town Alexandria.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had floor-to-ceiling windows that made the space feel much larger than typical boutique hotel rooms. You know what impressed me? The attention to details like blackout curtains that actually work and a bathroom with decent counter space — small things that show they understand business travelers. The design leans contemporary with clean lines and neutral tones, though I wouldn’t call it particularly memorable. It’s comfortable and functional, which is exactly what you want after a day exploring the area.
Neighborhood Insights
What guests don’t always realize is how walkable this part of Alexandria really is. You’re about a 10-minute walk to the King Street Metro station, which connects you directly to DC without dealing with driving or parking headaches downtown. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is literally two blocks away, and if you’re into history, George Washington’s Mount Vernon is a quick drive south. I actually found myself using the hotel as a base for both DC sightseeing and Virginia wine country day trips — it works surprisingly well for both.
Why Guests Love It
The combination of location and service really sets this place apart from other options in the area. Staff members actually seem to know the neighborhood and can point you toward the good stuff — like which restaurant has the best happy hour or where to catch the trolley for a quick Old Town tour. The 9.1 guest rating reflects what I experienced: solid execution on the basics with enough local character to make it feel special. It’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel around, but for exploring this part of Virginia while staying somewhere genuinely nice, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for.

The staff was very responsive and professional. We had 2 facility problems ( a water leak onto carpet from the AC unit and a plugged shower drain). We reported them to the front desk and staff fixed the problems by the time we returned in the evening. There are always problems wherever one stays and the ability of the hotel to correct issues quickly is what counts.
The housekeeping staff was excellent. Every day the room was pristine!
Also praise to the doormen and doorwoman who greeted us every time on arrival .Kimberly from United States (10/10)
