Hotel Indigo Old Town Alexandria, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Indigo Old Town Alexandria, an IHG Hotel on South Union Street, you immediately get that “this place has character” feeling. It’s not trying to be the flashiest building on the block — instead, it fits right into the historic charm of Old Town without looking like it’s pretending to be something it’s not. The four-star property has this boutique hotel vibe that feels refreshingly authentic, especially when you’re surrounded by all those colonial-era buildings and cobblestone streets.
Location That Actually Delivers
Honestly, the location here is pretty spectacular — couples rate it 9.9 out of 10, and I can see why. You’re literally in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, which means you can walk to the waterfront in about three minutes, hit up King Street’s shops and restaurants without breaking a sweat, and actually explore this historic area on foot. The Metro station is close enough that getting into DC is no big deal, but you know what? You might find yourself wanting to just stay put and wander around the neighborhood instead.
The Room Experience
The room design here follows that Hotel Indigo aesthetic — you know, the one where they actually put thought into local touches rather than just slapping generic art on the walls. Each space feels like it belongs in Alexandria specifically, with nods to the area’s maritime history and colonial heritage. The beds are comfortable (which honestly matters more than fancy pillows), and the bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything felt, even though you’re right in the middle of a busy historic district.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast situation is actually pretty impressive — they’ve got vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The American breakfast classics are solid too, and if you’re in a rush, they do breakfast to go, which is perfect when you want to grab something and head down to the waterfront. I mean, eating breakfast while watching the Potomac isn’t exactly a hardship. The restaurant focuses on local ingredients when possible, and the staff seems to genuinely know their stuff about the menu.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both polished and genuine — no small feat in a tourist-heavy area like Old Town. The recent guest rating of 9.7 for location isn’t just about proximity to attractions; it’s about being in a spot where you can actually experience Alexandria rather than just check it off a list. Parking is available on-site, which anyone who’s tried to find street parking in Old Town will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The whole experience feels thoughtfully curated rather than corporate, and that makes all the difference when you’re trying to get a real sense of this historic Virginia town.
Hotel in Washington reservations surge before Fourth of July when fireworks crews fence off the Mall.
