Morrison House Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Morrison House Old Town Alexandria, Autograph Collection, you immediately get the sense that this four-star boutique hotel takes itself seriously — in the best possible way. The Federal-style brick facade fits so seamlessly into Old Town’s historic streetscape that you might actually walk past it if you’re not paying attention. I mean, that’s sort of the point though — this place doesn’t need to shout for attention when it’s sitting on one of Alexandria’s most coveted blocks.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to be in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. You’re literally steps from King Street’s main strip with all its restaurants and shops, but tucked away on South Alfred Street where things stay relatively quiet. The waterfront is maybe a five-minute stroll, and you know what? You can actually walk to the Metro station without breaking a sweat. Couples seem to absolutely love it here — I can see why, since there’s something genuinely romantic about wandering these cobblestone streets together, especially in the evening when the historic buildings are all lit up.
The Rooms
The rooms at Morrison House feel like they’re trying to channel an upscale English manor, and they mostly pull it off. Think rich fabrics, mahogany furniture, and those little touches that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character rather than just another chain hotel. The beds are comfortable — not groundbreaking, but solid — and the bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stayed, even with the hotel sitting right in the middle of everything.
Dining & Amenities
The breakfast buffet is actually pretty decent, which honestly surprised me a bit. Nothing too fancy, but they do it well with fresh options and proper coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around all morning. Having private parking available is genuinely a blessing in Old Town — anyone who’s tried to find street parking around here on a weekend knows exactly what I’m talking about. The staff seems to really know the area too, so they’re good for restaurant recommendations or figuring out the best way to get wherever you’re headed.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Morrison House apart is how it manages to feel both historic and comfortable without trying too hard on either front. You’re staying in a place with real character in one of Virginia’s most walkable neighborhoods, but you’re not sacrificing modern conveniences or service quality. The fact that recent guests consistently rate the location so highly tells you something — this isn’t just about having a nice room, it’s about being perfectly positioned to actually enjoy Alexandria. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or just want to explore the area without dealing with DC traffic and parking hassles, this place delivers on what matters most.
To book a hotel in Washington during inauguration week, visitors balance ceremony seating with chef’s table briefings near Pennsylvania Avenue.

Location was excellent. Staff was helpful, but didn’t know a whole lot about the area. We would’ve liked to of had coffee service every morning, and also filtered water for no charge.
Telephone was not functioning and there could be more outlets for charging laptops, etc. NBarbara from United States (7/10)

Location is the best in Alexandria, Virginia! Just off King Street on Alfred, it is right in the middle of all activity. Breakfast is a super spread just off the lobby for comfort and privacy.
