The 9:30 Club is just a few blocks away if you’re into live music, and the U Street corridor with all its jazz history is right there. Metro access is solid too — you’ve got Shaw-Howard University station nearby, which makes getting around the city pretty effortless. The neighborhood’s vibrant cultural scene and historic significance make it an ideal base for exploring the city.

The room I stayed in was clean and well-designed, with that boutique hotel feel you don’t always expect at this price point. The layout makes smart use of space — nothing feels cramped, and there’s actually decent storage for your stuff. What struck me was the attention to detail in the furnishings and lighting. You know how some hotels feel like they just grabbed everything from the same catalog? This place actually feels curated. Every element has been thoughtfully selected to create a comfortable and inviting environment.

Practical Considerations

One thing to note about staying in Shaw — parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving, but that’s pretty standard for this part of DC. The hotel staff was helpful with recommendations for nearby options. The building itself is quiet, which I appreciated since T Street can get lively on weekends. The Wi-Fi worked well, and I mean actually worked well — not that barely-functional hotel internet you sometimes get. These practical amenities contribute to a seamless and enjoyable stay.

The location really is the star here, and I can see why couples rate it so highly. There’s something romantic about wandering through Shaw’s tree-lined streets, ducking into cozy wine bars, or catching a show at one of the nearby venues.   I like that this is a mixed use property that is home to many and provides lovely guest quarters for visitors. The full-time residents as well as the desk staff (kudos to Ms. Nicki) were kind and helpful. The Howard U neighborhood is home to a cross-section of the DC community, to include university students, working families, the elderly, and people living a more uncertain, transient life. It is a busy, active, and noisy neighborhood. It is why I enjoy visiting the “real” part of a city, rather than the insulated, isolated swath of resort style properties.

  The desk staff were lovely, always cheerful and very helpful, the key code was sent to the wrong email (they had added a space) originally but soon sorted via whatsapp while I was in the taxi from the airport. I was obviously concerned when I turned on my phone to find that I was going to have to call someone for details as it was quite late! The apartment was large and bright. Well equipped. The showers were lovely, good pressure and nice and hot. Lots of interesting places to walk to, lots of bars and eateries in the area and about 45 minutes walk to the Capitol and museums. The metro is around the corner and a Giant Supermarket is about 10 minutes walk away.

  The apartment is superb, well equipped, all equipment is functioning well, from dish wash machine to laundry machine and smart tv. We felt ourselves home away from home. The location is good, close to bus stop and train station to everywhere you want to go.
