Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town/Duke Street Overview
First Impressions
The Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town/Duke Street sits right on Duke Street, and honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better spot to explore Alexandria. This three-star extended-stay property feels more like a well-appointed apartment building than a traditional hotel — which is exactly what you want when you’re planning to stick around for more than just a night or two. The moment you walk in, there’s this relaxed, residential vibe that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals would actually choose.
The Suite Life
Every room here is actually a suite with a full kitchen, and I mean a real kitchen — not some sad mini-fridge situation. You’ve got full-size appliances, plenty of counter space, and all the cookware you need if you want to skip the restaurant scene for a night. The living areas are spacious enough that you won’t feel cramped, even if you’re traveling with family or planning to work from your suite. The beds are comfortable, and there’s enough storage that you can actually unpack and settle in properly.
Location Perks
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re walking distance from Old Town’s cobblestone streets and waterfront, but you’re not paying those premium Old Town prices. Duke Street has this perfect mix of local businesses and practical stuff you actually need, like grocery stores and casual dining. The couples who stay here consistently rave about the location, and I get it — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll to the Potomac River for sunset walks, then come back to your own little home base.
Morning Routine
The complimentary breakfast is actually worth getting up for, which isn’t something I say lightly. They do a proper American buffet spread — think scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, and decent coffee. It’s served in a bright, airy space that doesn’t feel like a hotel cafeteria, and the staff keeps everything well-stocked even during busy periods. You know what’s nice? You can grab a cup of coffee and take it back to your suite if you’re not ready to be social yet.
Why Guests Love It
The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering — it’s private and included, which is honestly a great value in this area. But beyond the practical stuff, there’s something about this property that just works for people who want to experience Alexandria without feeling like tourists. You’re close enough to DC that you can metro in for the day, but far enough out that you get to see what Northern Virginia actually feels like. The spa amenities are limited, but the fitness center is decent, and honestly, with Old Town’s walking paths right there, you probably won’t miss having a fancy gym. Recent guests consistently rate this place highly, and after spending time here, I can see why — it strikes that sweet spot between comfort, location, and value.

The fact of having breakfast available made the start of the day very easy. Not having to look for a place to please all in the family was a big plus. The breakfast area was always clean and the staff was always attentive and very pleasing.

The front desk women were so nice! They made me feel welcomed when I arrived. The room, hallways, and elevators were clean and there was no weird smells that some hotels give off. I felt safe and loved how close we were to King Street. Breakfast was a great addition and the women helping with breakfast were very helpful.

Location was great. It was an easy 20 minute walk to the heart of Old Town. Receptionist staff was very friendly and efficient. There was a free good hot breakfast with the usual offerings (waffle maker, scrambled eggs, sausage, etc.) Room was large and very quiet.

We arrived early morning on the check in day, expecting to leave our bags until check in. To our surprise, they were able to put us in a room early. That was exceptional customer service. We loved the location; we could walk most places.

Easy to find and well known by drivers in the Alexandria area. Breakfast was most plentiful and pleasant. Shuttle service of a mile was THE best!!!
