The Poppy Georgetown Guesthouse and Gardens Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about The Poppy Georgetown Guesthouse and Gardens? It actually feels like someone’s elegant home rather than a typical hotel. This four-star boutique property sits tucked away on a quiet residential street in Washington, and honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing I’d found my destination. The understated entrance and garden setting make it feel like a well-kept secret in one of DC’s most desirable neighborhoods.
The Georgetown Advantage
Georgetown is expensive for a reason — and staying here puts you right in the heart of it without the tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally steps from M Street’s shopping and dining, but the guesthouse sits on a peaceful residential block where you can actually hear birds instead of traffic. The waterfront is a five-minute walk, and I found myself strolling down to the Potomac most evenings. What really impressed me was how couples seem to gravitate toward this place — apparently they rate the location nearly perfect for romantic getaways, and I can see why.
Your Home Base
Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. Mine had this charming mix of antique touches and modern comforts that somehow worked perfectly together. The garden views from my window were genuinely lovely — not just a marketing line — and there’s something calming about waking up to greenery in the middle of the city. The bathrooms are well-appointed, and honestly, the whole space felt more like staying in a sophisticated friend’s guest room than a commercial property.
Morning Fuel and Practical Perks
Breakfast here is a pleasant surprise — they offer both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on your morning plans. I appreciated having substantial options when I needed fuel for long days of sightseeing, but also lighter fare when I planned to explore Georgetown’s café scene. The private parking is worth mentioning because, well, anyone who’s tried to park in Georgetown knows it’s basically a contact sport. Having a guaranteed spot removes one major DC headache from your trip.
Why Guests Love It
This place consistently earns rave reviews, and after staying here, I get it. The location scores are through the roof because you’re genuinely in the best part of Georgetown without paying Ritz-Carlton prices. It’s intimate enough that the staff actually remembers your name, but professional enough that everything runs smoothly. The gardens aren’t just decorative — they create this peaceful buffer from city life that makes the whole experience feel special. If you want to experience Georgetown like a local rather than a tourist, this guesthouse delivers that authentic neighborhood feel while keeping you close to everything that matters. The combination of personalized service and prime location makes this property an exceptional choice for discerning travelers.
Washington’s apartments welcome families with stroller-friendly museums, splash parks, and metro links to the zoo.

For a hotel close to a major city, The Poppy Georgetown Guesthouse is extremely quite and the location is perfect. We stayed in a King Room with Bath – the room was very spacious.
The guesthose is within walking distance of Georgetown's many shops, bars and restaurants, including the waterfront. You can also walk to all the main attractions in downtown Washington if you feel so inclined, although it's only a short hop in an Uber.
Due to a flight delay, we arrived late at night. Nico was extremely helpful and provided an easy-to-remember door code to make our arrival and check-in as smooth as possible.Nicky2015 from Australia (9/10)

So cute! Cozy and quaint. Love the snacks. Very clean. Hosts/managers, Nico and John, super friendly, welcoming, and laid back. It totally felt like a guesthouse; you are a guest at someone's house. Nice location, quieter than i expected. Nice walk to the main shopping area, restaurants, the university, etc.
