citizenM Washington DC NoMa Overview

First Impressions

Walking into citizenM Washington DC NoMa, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical business hotel. The lobby feels more like a tech startup’s headquarters — all sleek lines, bold colors, and this massive communal table where people are actually working on laptops instead of just passing through. It’s a four-star property that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which honestly feels refreshing in a city full of stuffy government hotels.

The NoMa Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this location in Washington — you’re in NoMa, which stands for North of Massachusetts Avenue, and it’s this rapidly evolving area that most tourists completely miss. You’ve got the Union Market just a few blocks away, which is where locals actually go for weekend brunch and artisanal everything. The Red Line metro stop is practically next door, so you can be at the Capitol or Smithsonian in about 15 minutes. Plus, there’s this great little coffee scene developing around here that feels way more authentic than the tourist traps downtown.

The Room Experience

The room design is pure citizenM — compact but incredibly smart. Everything’s controlled through this tablet system that took me about five minutes to figure out, but once you do, it’s actually pretty cool controlling the lights, temperature, and even the TV from bed. The shower is one of those rainfall situations that makes you not want to leave, and the bed — well, let’s just say I’ve stayed in much more expensive places with worse sleep quality. The floor-to-ceiling windows give you either city views or glimpses of the Capitol dome if you’re lucky with your room assignment.

Dining and Social Spaces

The breakfast buffet is solid without being spectacular — you know, good coffee, fresh pastries, the usual suspects done well. But what really works here is the communal vibe throughout the hotel. There’s this 24-hour grab-and-go market situation, and the lobby bar gets surprisingly lively in the evenings with a mix of business travelers and locals who’ve discovered the place. I actually ended up having some great conversations with people just because the space encourages it — you’re not hiding in your room here.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this hotel just gets modern travel. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or doormen in white gloves — you’re paying for smart design, a killer location that puts you close to both tourist stuff and real DC life, and a vibe that doesn’t make you feel like you’re staying in corporate housing. The fact that couples rate the location so highly makes total sense when you realize you can walk to some genuinely great dinner spots in NoMa, then easily metro anywhere else you want to explore. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals would actually choose, not just another hotel that happens to be in Washington.

Locals suggest to book apartments in Washington around Logan Circle for craft coffee, art deco theaters, and Sunday farmers markets.
