Hotel Zena Washington DC Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Zena Washington DC feels like stepping into an art gallery that happens to have beds — and I mean that in the best possible way. This four-star boutique property on 14th Street has this bold, unapologetically feminist theme that could easily feel gimmicky, but honestly? They pull it off with style. The lobby’s dramatic black and pink color scheme, combined with striking artwork celebrating powerful women, sets a tone that’s both sophisticated and playful.

Prime Location in the Heart of DC

You know what really sold me on this place? The location is absolutely unbeatable. Sitting right in the Thomas Circle area of Washington, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the White House and about the same distance to Dupont Circle’s restaurant scene. I actually found myself skipping Ubers most of the time because everything felt walkable — the Metro’s right there, and you can easily stroll to the National Mall when the weather’s nice. The neighborhood has this great energy, especially in the evenings when the nearby restaurants and bars come alive.

The Room Experience

My room was on the eighth floor, and while it wasn’t huge (this is DC, after all), it felt thoughtfully designed rather than cramped. The floor-to-ceiling windows let in tons of natural light, and the decor continues that empowering theme without being overwhelming — think subtle nods rather than hitting you over the head with it. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, and I appreciated the high-quality toiletries. One thing that caught me off guard was how quiet it was, considering you’re right in the middle of everything.

Dining and Social Spaces

Figleaf Bar & Lounge downstairs quickly became my go-to spot for both morning coffee and evening drinks. The restaurant serves this interesting globally-inspired menu that changes seasonally — I had this incredible Korean-influenced dish that I’m still thinking about months later. The rooftop bar, Hedy, offers some pretty spectacular views of the city skyline, though it can get packed on weekends (fair warning). What I really loved was how the spaces felt designed for both business travelers grabbing a quick bite and couples settling in for a longer evening.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing about Hotel Zena — it manages to be both a statement piece and a genuinely comfortable place to stay. The staff clearly takes pride in what they’re doing, and you can tell they’ve thought about the little details that make a difference. The fitness center is well-equipped if you need to work off those restaurant meals, and the business center actually has everything you need if work calls. Couples seem to particularly love this place (and I can see why — there’s something romantic about the bold design and intimate atmosphere), but I think anyone looking for something more interesting than your typical chain hotel would appreciate what they’ve created here. It’s DC hospitality with personality, which isn’t always easy to find.

To book a hotel in Washington during inauguration week, visitors balance ceremony seating with chef’s table briefings near Pennsylvania Avenue.
