Hilton Garden Inn Shirlington Overview
First Impressions
The Hilton Garden Inn Shirlington sits right in the heart of one of Arlington’s most walkable neighborhoods, and honestly, the location alone makes this three-star hotel worth considering. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the Shirlington Village shopping center — which locals know is where you go for everything from Target runs to decent dinner spots. The building itself has that clean, modern Hilton Garden Inn look you’d expect, but what struck me was how quiet it felt despite being so close to everything.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Shirlington — you get that suburban convenience without feeling like you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. The hotel’s parking situation is actually pretty great (and free, which is rare around here), but you honestly might not need your car much. There’s a Harris Teeter grocery store within walking distance, plus the Village at Shirlington has this nice mix of chain restaurants and local spots. You know what’s really handy? The Four Mile Run trail is right there if you’re into morning jogs or just want to walk off that hotel breakfast.
Room Comfort
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d hope for from Hilton Garden Inn — nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly. The bed was genuinely comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), which explains why couples seem to love this place so much. Each room comes with a microwave and mini-fridge, plus there’s a kitchenette setup that’s actually useful if you grab groceries from Harris Teeter. The workspace area is decent too — I got some work done without feeling cramped, and the WiFi was solid throughout my stay.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast setup here is pretty comprehensive — they do both continental and American options in a buffet style, so you’re not stuck with just pastries and coffee. I actually appreciated having real eggs and bacon available, especially since the restaurant area has this bright, airy feel that makes morning meals more pleasant. If you’re not into hotel breakfast, though, you’ve got plenty of options within a short walk. The Shirlington area has everything from casual spots to nicer dinner places, and honestly, exploring the neighborhood became part of the fun.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances accessibility with peace and quiet. You’re close enough to DC that you can easily get downtown (the bus connections are pretty good), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with city noise and chaos. Couples especially seem to appreciate this — there’s something nice about having a home base that feels residential but still puts you close to everything you need. The staff was genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions, and little touches like that make a difference when you’re trying to navigate an unfamiliar area.

An open, airy hotel with clean facilities throughout. Perhaps even better was the location, with several restaurants and bars on the street and right around the corner along vibrant streets. There's even a supermarket and movie theater within a block of the hotel. Great airport shuttle service, too.
