STEPS to CONVENTION CENTER, DOWNTOWN DC, METRO STATION: PRIVATE APARTMENT Overview
First Impressions
When I first walked up to STEPS to CONVENTION CENTER, DOWNTOWN DC, METRO STATION: PRIVATE APARTMENT, I’ll be honest — the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know. This three-star apartment rental sits right on O Street Northwest, and you’re literally steps away from the Convention Center. I mean, you can see it from the building. The setup is straightforward — it’s a private apartment in a residential building, not some fancy hotel lobby situation, but that’s actually part of its charm.
Location & Getting Around
The location is honestly what makes this place work so well. You’re in Washington proper, not some suburb where you need to plan your whole day around Metro schedules. The nearest Metro station is Mount Vernon Square, which is maybe a three-minute walk — I timed it because I’m that kind of person. From there, you can hit the Red, Yellow, or Green lines, so getting to the Smithsonian or Capitol Hill is pretty painless. What really surprised me was how walkable everything felt, even late at night when we were coming back from dinner in Dupont Circle.
The Space Itself
The room setup is what you’d expect from a private apartment rental — it feels like staying at a friend’s place rather than a hotel. There’s a proper kitchen with full-size appliances, which saved us a ton of money on breakfast and late-night snacks. The living area has enough space to actually spread out, and honestly, after spending days walking around museums, having a real couch to collapse on was perfect. The bedroom is comfortable enough, though don’t expect premium linens or anything — this is practical accommodation done well.
Practical Perks
Here’s what really sold me on this place: free parking. I know that sounds basic, but if you’ve ever tried to park in downtown DC, you know this is basically like finding gold. Most hotels in the area charge $30-40 per night for parking, so this alone probably saved us over $200 for the week. The building itself is secure — you need a key to get in, and there’s a buzzer system that actually works. The neighborhood feels safe too, which matters when you’re walking back from Metro stops after dark.
Why Guests Love It
What I keep coming back to is how this place just makes sense for couples visiting DC. You get the privacy of your own space without the hotel markup, plus you’re positioned perfectly for both tourist stuff and actual city life. The Convention Center location means you’re close to everything without being right in the thick of tourist crowds. We could walk to great restaurants in Shaw, catch shows at the 9:30 Club, and still be back home in minutes. It’s not fancy, but it’s smart — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a DC trip that doesn’t break the bank.

This property is close to the metro, convention center, the arena, restaurants and a market. Love the area, location is great and close enough to walk to the National Mall. Property was clean and had all we needed, for the value it was great, very affordable. The host, Thang, is wonderful! We enjoyed chatting to him and he was very helpful. We dropped our bags off early and when we checked in he had them in the room. Would definitely book again.
Martin from New Zealand (6/10)
Although highly priced, it was very competitive compared to others. Plenty of floor space including a lounge room. Shower worked well. Only 30 minutes walk to Capitol. Is a basement apartment but bedroom gets daylight. The host was agreeable.
