Viola’s Place Overview
First Impressions
I’ll be honest — when I first saw the address for Viola’s Place, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a basement-level spot in Northwest DC. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you. This three-star gem sits right in the heart of Washington, and after spending a few nights there, I can see why it’s earned such stellar reviews from guests. The overall rating of 9.4 reflects the genuine appreciation guests have for this unique property.
Location That Actually Matters
The location is honestly fantastic — and I mean that in the most practical sense. You’re on N Street Northwest, which puts you within walking distance of some of DC’s best neighborhoods without the tourist chaos. I found myself strolling to Dupont Circle for dinner, then wandering over to Logan Circle the next morning for coffee. The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering — finding free on-site parking in this part of the city is like striking gold. Couples seem to get this location especially well, rating it a solid 9.0, and I can see why.
The Room Experience
Now, being in a basement might sound less than ideal, but the room I stayed in was surprisingly bright and well-ventilated. Viola has clearly put thought into making the space feel welcoming rather than dungeon-like. The setup is straightforward but comfortable — you’re not getting fancy amenities, but everything you need is there and it’s clean. I actually slept better than I expected, probably because it’s naturally quieter being below street level. The attention to detail in these small touches really enhances the guest experience.
What Sets It Apart
Here’s the thing about Viola’s Place — it’s not trying to be something it’s not. This isn’t a flashy hotel with a marble lobby and concierge service. Instead, it’s a well-run, thoughtfully managed place that focuses on the basics done right. The recent guest ratings speak for themselves, with an 8.8 for location quality. I mean, when you’re getting this kind of access to Northwest DC without paying downtown hotel prices, you start to understand the appeal. The whole experience feels more like staying at a friend’s place who happens to know the city really well.
Why Guests Love It
After my stay, I totally get the 9.4 rating. It’s about smart travel and authentic experiences. You’re getting a solid, comfortable base in one of DC’s most livable neighborhoods, with the bonus of not having to stress about where to leave your car. Viola has created something that works particularly well for couples looking to explore the city on foot, grab dinner at neighborhood spots, and actually experience DC like locals do rather than tourists. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need from a getaway.

A beautiful apartment – everything you need for either a short or a long stay. Hosts have thought of everything. Quiet as the bedroom is at the back of the apartment. Hosts are lovely people too. 100% recommend
Claudia from Italy (9/10)
Lovely apt, you find literally all tools you need to cook/bake, comfy bed, bedsheets and towels smell clean, 20min walk from Union Station if you arrive by train, about 10min walk from Noma subway, about 7min walk from supermarket. Fast and reliable internet. Excellent communication with the host. Tasteful paintings too 🙂
I'd definitely stay at Viola's again.
I'm mentioning the points below just to help the next guests.
– The two owners live upstairs, which was brilliant for me as I'm a solo traveller and I felt so much safer knowing I could reach them out if needed. Some people, however, wouldn't like it.
– The apt is in a basement which may get a little cold, I was fine as the weather was hot but i'm not sure about winter time. There's the heating but again not sure about the temperature in DC in winter, upper floors are always warmer since the heat goes up.
– I liked the neighbourhood, lively and safe, however, it's not super central. I'm saying that just for tourists who want to be closer to The Mall/main monuments etc. Downtown is easily reachable from Noma subway though.Emiene from United States (9/10)

Warm and cozy flat. Ideal for a couple. It was clean, has a free parking spot and a lot of house appliances including the kitchen. The location was pretty good – rather close to the Mall.
